Spring are you out there somewhere? You are and zooming toward summer!
It has been a wild winter here in my little corner of the world with water pipes breakin and wood stove crankin I’ve had enough hot chocolate, popcorn and good books by the fire and now wishing for spring flowers and chillin on my porch.
Heading west on a plane in late January to vacation for a spell in central California was such a treat. I soaked up the warmth of the sun and inhaled the fresh coastal air! Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove and agricultural areas in that region filled my artistic soul with inspiration for the yummiest paintings to come. This visit (three in the last year) where the mesmerizing rhythms of the waves washing up on shore soothed my being and offered space to breathe. I think you will agree my new oil and cold wax paintings speak of the energy, colors and essence of this incredible part of the country.
I am now back in Ferrer Studio continuing to explore
my new medium and sustaining the passion felt during my time away. Using cold wax alone or mixed with oil paints allows me to totally play as a painter and sculptor. As most of you know from seeing my works over the years the tactile quality of the surface is my favorite part. Making a variety of marks on the surface and carving down through the layers of color has set my heart a flutter. You need to see the works in person as a photo just doesn’t capture the depth or richness. Every day I am discovering new approaches and I haven’t even started playing with combining my collagé techniques! I am also taking that Mojo and continuing to express my emotional response to my surroundings here in Brown County. The bottom line is I am back ready to rumble…listen to me roar!
You can always see my new work at www.dixieferrer.com or in real life, which is the best, at the Brown County Art Guild and New Leaf in Nashville. You may also give me a jingle and meet me in Ferrer Studio, at the edge of the woods, where I have works ready to find a home.
HAPPY SPRING TO YOU!
